Harmonizing Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Frameworks for Risk Informed Development Planning in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Case of Uganda and Malawi

Increasing impacts of disasters and climate hazards have prompted Africa countries to develop national disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies with the aim reducing mortality other losses. However, still a significant impact on their populations, livelihoods, infrastructure which they depend. Furthermore, an increasing understanding need address root causes has led calls for greater coherence between that focus DRR, Climate Change Adaptation Sustainable Development. There is acknowledgement existing implementation gap dividing policy domains (CCA) Disaster Risk Reduction at as well international levels. This paper analyses gaps opportunities in design policies practices within two suggest measures enhance collaboration Malawi Uganda. Document analysis interviews 8 respondents over period one month were undertaken gather needed information. Fostering conceptual resilience, joint planning similar activities through common coordination mechanism found be essential achieving across five thematic areas.
